Remembering a Big Commercial Mission Down Under…

At this Easter season, we look back on a memorable trip from easier times for our industry in Easter 2019 when MoonJet were asked to support an operator with our services to assist with a multi-sector, whistle-stop tour around South- East Asia & into Australia. In addition to client time pressure, this was a particularly demanding request for any ops team to arrange due to the complexity of permits and additional approvals involved for a commercial passenger flight and MoonJet’s experience and expertise were able to ensure a quality service and a successful operation for the passengers and crew.

We worked with the operator to obtain an FOP renewal for Singapore and managed daily notams, involving night restrictions and runway works, to schedule flights that were suitable for the passengers. Coordinating this to obtain workable runway and parking slots for the next leg into Hong Kong, one of the world’s busiest airports, was no mean feat! Additionally, we were able to steer our client successfully through the lengthy HKCAA approval process whilst using our established relationships and extensive network to grant parking for 3 nights on the apron side and avoid costly parking at the more remote hangar facility.

For Australia things became more complex, the requirements included special forms for CASA for landing permit approval and the Australian TSP which requires a minimum of 60 days application period to obtain the required security approval. The MoonJet team did a fantastic job, obtaining the TSP in near-record time, allowing the flight to proceed as scheduled. Happy passengers means a happy operator!

Fast forward to 2021 and the pandemic currently means visits to Australia are still challenging!  Only exempt travellers such as Australian citizens and residents (but including international air crew) are able to travel down under and they must quarantine for 14 days in a designated facility on arrival.
